  • Dr. C. is based on a very simple matching algorithm that makes the best match possible between a user's question and the Dr. C. database. Dr. C.'s database contains around 3000 questions and question variants, including questions about Mars and about himself (these personal questions were answered by the real Dr. Christensen).
  • Depending on the success of the match, Dr. C. responds in one of four ways: He either provides the answer directly, rephrases your question and provides the answer, provides two similar questions from his database that are hyperlinked to answers, or says he doesn't know. In that case, the question will be forwarded so that a new answer is created, enriching the database.
  • Dr. C. was created for a dissertation study and used by over 500 middle school students participating in NASA's Mars Student Imaging Project
  • Dr. C. is in beta form as a website interface for "frequently asked questions" about Mars. We will continue to develop Dr. C. and add enhancements as possible, including a spell checker, a more advanced algorithm, and even more computerized scientists from which to choose. Stay tuned!
