Mars Exploration (General)

content picture for contributions section
The high point of my career thus far has been being the Mars Exploration Rover Entry Descent and Landing (EDL) Mechanical Systems mother goose(see below). I logged enough airline miles to go around the world more that a dozen times in ensuring that the heat shield, parachute, rockets, airbags and other devices, all worked individually and together to get us safely to the surface of Mars. It was a tough challenge, and I got to work with a great group of people.

My current job is leading the engineering effort for the rover on the MSL mission. This is an exciting change from my experience on MER entry descent and landing.

On MER, I was the Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) Mechanical Systems Lead. This means I was responsible for ensuring that the entry, descent and landing mechanical systems perform individually and together as we need them to get us to Mars. That means heat shields, parachutes, rockets, airbags and other mechanical devices, all need to work together to get us safely to the surface of Mars. It was a tough challenge, and I got to work with a great group of people. It was definily the high point of my career thus far.
