What advice can you offer to young scientists or engineers?

Follow your interests and develop your skills in what you think is fun to do. If you are really excited about something, and you enjoy doing it, learn as much as you can, and train to be good at it. Opportunities will present themselves to you that you never imagined possible.

Why do you think Mars Exploration is important?

I think Mars Exploration is important because Mars may give us the answer about where we come from. Mars may have been like Earth earlier in its existence, and life may have arisen independently on Mars - maybe even before life on Earth. We may find traces of our microbial ancestors in the rocks and soils of Mars.

Do you have any hobbies?

I really enjoy listening to all kinds of music - classical, jazz and rock. I also spend time mountain biking with my children in the forests of Denmark. I like traveling with my family and skiing.
