Background Information
Eric T. Baumgartner received the B.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1988, the M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. Currently, he is a Senior Engineer and the Group Supervisor of the Mechanical and Robotic Technologies Group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. He contributed to the 2003 Mars Exploration Rover mission as the lead test and operations engineer for the 5 degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator carried by the rover. His research interests include sensor fusion and state estimation techniques for autonomous robotic systems.
